under the rotunda [06 Mar 2007|11:19pm]

it's a good thing i like libraries... it's quiet in here! is anyone still around? i'm laini, and i found this community by accident, using google because i forgot the name of that baxendale song where he says "just because i like tigermilk doesn't mean i'm fucking twee". (i still can't remember and it's driving me insane)

since it's only polite to bring a gift when you come to a party, here are pictures from the last time i saw the lucksmiths, in 2000, i think. signal 66 is a gallery in dc, then the next day they did an instore at the record store i used to work in. (i'm the short one :)) they were as sweet as their music. the whole set is here but be warned, there are a million of them; i went a little camera crazy, can you blame me?

What are some of the best twee communities on the web?

This one clearly has no discussion going on and I checked out a couple other livejournal communities before with no luck. There was one with huge membership but it was nothing more than a glorified mp3-trading forum.

Similarly, tried joining the Indiepop mailing list but I really dislike how the yahoo mailing list function works. It's just confusing and messy.

And I've found nothing else, really. It's a shame because no other genre gives me the joy that twee and indiepop do.

hi [02 Jan 2007|06:21am]

[ mood | amused ]

Hi, I'm Barbara from Brazil - bloodypleasures - on Twee Folks room (soulseek). :)

- what's the worst job you've had?

Hmm, I guess it was last year when I was working for some politicians. Horrible... I don't like politics so I was surrounded by everything I don't like: fake people, diplomatic hellos and goodbyes and so on... plus the money was ridiculous.

- what do you read?

I love to read fantastic stories, beat generation, german expressionism, some pop reading like Nick Hornby, Christopher Moore, asian pop reading like Murakami aaaaaand of course music books, specially from old critics. I love it!

- what's driving you mad?

Can't stop thinking about the university. I dropped out and now I want to go back. Journalism.

what's the worst job you've had? Well, I just turned 16 last month, so the worst job I've had is the only job I've had.. busing tables, it's dreadful, I suppose the money is good, with the tips and all that, but it requires an awful amount of balence and your legs get quite tired
what do you read? What I can get my hands on, from Daniel Handler to Satre, from Wally lamb to Voltaire
what's driving you mad? Dull Suburban mediocracy.. I live in Conneticut

Hello, I'm new - "Some of my best friends are bastards like you." [11 Sep 2006|04:15pm]

Or, well, tragically not.

what's the worst job you've had?
I go to school and as of yet cannot claim to have done much else, although it was hideous enough to for one year be responsible for the amount of paper and general waste on the classroom floor - supposed to oscillate between zero and nothing, which was nearly impossible to achieve.

what do you read?
Four monthly music magazines and one weekly that shall not be named. Occasionally, books, for instance by J. D. Salinger or Paul Auster. These days I am trying to get through Truman Capote's "Other Voices, Other Rooms", unbelievably saddened by the fact that while I am fatally in love with the man in pictures, his writing refuses to make its way into my heart.

what's driving you mad?
That I have to endure several hours on various forms of public transport to get to a place where I can even just hope to be able to purchase any albums by The Wedding Present (although I do actually like public transport, I simply do not have the time or money to do that very often, which is to say more than twice a year) (as it happens, the first page of "Other Voices, Other Rooms" largely dealt with public transport, and I know it's a subject that can be written about very beautifully ... yet it wasn't), and that for vaguely similar reasons (except they didn't even come to that place, it was further away still) I failed to see The Lucksmiths live ... exactly four days ago.

Edit: It appears I neglected to mention it - I'm Kathrin.

Tullycraft - Twee [26 Aug 2006|12:47pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

I know most of the references in this song. Sarah Records, Little Teddy, IFOJ, 14 Iced Bears, etc.

But I don't know what a boscoe or a bruno are. I tried googling the terms but didn't get much. Someone enlighten me.

well she wakes up every morning
to the sound of sarah records
on a compilation tape
her friend had sent to her from paris
well it's not to say she didn't like
the college station
but her days left in this town
were counting down to graduation
she said hey hey hey
with less than three weeks to go
she tried to justify the goth scene
but the relevance was low
and she said hey hey hey
won't you listen to me
well you can keep the punk rock
ska rap beats and house
fuck me i'm twee

she packed her little teddy totebag
saved some tickets for herself
picked out her favorite lucksmiths single
took the Cher Doll off the shelf
she grabbed her slumberland guitar case
and her 14 iced bears ring
took down her IFOJ poster
and 'the band who would be king'
and she said hey hey hey
I'm taking 2nd to steal
you know you won't meet barker's beauties
unless you learn to spin the wheel
and she said hey hey hey
won't you listen to me
well you can keep the punk rock
ska rap beats and house
fuck me i'm twee

she said i may not beat my sister
at this stupid game of uno
but at least i know the difference
between a boscoe and a bruno
sick of stickin' around just like those magnets on the fridge
but when i finally leave this town
please don't throw aggi from the bridge
she said hey hey hey
there's just one thing i know
you'll find more posies in the used bin
than there are people at the show
and she said hey hey hey
won't you listen to me
well you can keep the punk rock
ska rap beats and house
fuck me i'm twee

Hola, I'm Harley.

what's the worst job you've had?
I worked a night watchman job at an in-construction hospital for one night. I quit the following morning because I spent the whole night spooked and cowering in the basement.

what do you read?
Comics, novels, graphic novels, fiction, music non-fiction, magazines.
Right now I'm reading Rip It Up And Start Again: The History Of Post-Punk and The World Of Henry Orient.

what's driving you mad?
Now that I have a job again for the first time in months, I want to buy the Beat Happening box set but it's out of print and there's nothing on eBay.

Asaurus Records [11 Jul 2006|10:44pm]

Today, I'd like to tell you crazy kids (yes, BOTH of you) about Asaurus Records, the label which is essentially leading the twee scene in Boston today, despite the fact they're located in Athens, Georgia.

It orginally started in Detroit, in the harsh winter of 2001. Actually, that's embelishment, but it is from Detroit circa 2001. In 2005, they relocated to Athens, Georgia, for some inexplicable reason. They describe themselves as interested in lo-fi, indie pop, and quiet noise, but about half of the music they do put out turns out to be twee, which was, I believe the purpose of this community? Well, at any rate, here's the highlights as I see them:

Pants Yell!
Ponies in the Surf
The Diskettes
New Grenada
This Bank Holiday

Asaurus Records

Alright, this was fun, we should do it again, even if you kids were already aware of Asaurus Records and I was just beating a dead horse. This community just looked so empty and sad, you know?

Happy Listening,
